A new strategy to synthesize nanocomposites based on benzoxazine-functionalized graphene oxide will be developed. The novelty of this work consists in developing new covalent functionalization routes to grow the benzoxazine monomers directly on the proper chemically modified graphene oxide surface in order to obtain new exfoliated nanocomposite structures and to demonstrate their superior performance as compared with ordinary polybenozxazines.

The project exhibits a high degree of novelty aiming to synthesize new polybenzoxazine-graphene oxide nanocomposites using an original approach based on benzoxazine-functionalized graphene oxide.

The results will significantly influence the knowledge concerning the synthesis routes for graphene oxide-polymer nanocomposites and may open a new research field on preparing of such nanocomposites with  high mechanical strength due to the covalent bonds established between the polybenzoxazine and graphene oxide.

Thus a new range of hybrid nanomaterials with enhanced features that can overcome the main drawbacks of previously synthesized nanocomposites will be produced.
